10 panphobic myths
http://rainbowgenderpunk.wordpress.com/2011/11/12/10-panphobic-myths-debunked/
I don’t really like the -phobic terminology, but there don’t seem to be any specific terms to replace biphobia and panphobia, except bi-hatred and pan-hatred, and I hear people find them too clunky.
But that asides, this is a great article / blog post / thing. Read it.

Dear Followers,
I have been receiving a lot of messages as the one above. Apparently there is a person going around on tumblr, befriending members of the lgbt community who are not yet out to their parents. She then sends their parents letters outing them. (S)he pretends to want to be your pen pal or wants to send you a letter/gift via mail. (S)he will do anything to get your address. Please be careful. I’d really appreciate you guys reblogging this or making a similar post letting your friends/followers know. Just because that person’s blog was deleted doesn’t mean (s)he won’t come back.
A warning to anyone that isn’t out to their parents/guardians - don’t make any pen pals, just in case.

Y-Axis: 0-10 = # of genders one is attracted to; 10=infinity
X-Axis: Non-monosexual sexual identities; queer, fluid, heteroflexible, homoflexible, gay/lesbian-identified non-monosexual, bisexual/bi-romantic, polysexual/poly-romantic, pansexual/pan-romantic
Red=maximum number of genders one can be attracted to
Blue=minimum number of genders one can be attracted to
(Not Shown on Graph: primary number of genders one is attracted to with a particular sexual identity; also, not necessarily possible to find data for, for most identities)
NON-MONOSEXUAL PSA
Click here to read the whole post - it’s fairly long. This is a PSA by christineleem about multisexuality.
The only things I would add are:
- I’m not sure the minumum gender attraction for polysexual/polyromantic is three - that might be two as well.
- Similarly, hetero/homoflexible is about flexibility, so I’d still put the minumum at 1 (because one-ish isn’t the same as two)
- Bi* isn’t the best word to use as an umbrella word because it does seem to go with the “pan/polysexuality is just a subset of bisexual” and sit uncomfortably with some non-binary people. Multisexual is a great umbrella word, and works well with the word monosexual.

Apocalypse Suite: Bi/Pan/Queer identification...
Bisexual- Attracted to men and women. Can include attraction to people who are MTF/FTM transgender/transsexual in any stage of transition. Is up to personal identification.
Pansexual- Attracted to men, women, and people who identify as transgender and any of the more specific identifications…
Click through; this is pretty good :)

“Isn’t pansexual just hipster speak for bisexual?”
Um, not necessarily, actually.
Exhibit A: Look at the word: bisexual. Bi means two. Ergo, two-sexual. Bisexuality means the attraction to two genders: males and females. However, some feel that the gender spectrum is not a black-and-white, one-or-the-other concept, and the reality is that many people don’t identify, or don’t identify fully, with the sex of their body. As well as male and female individuals, there are also people in the world who identify as genderqueer, third-gender, transgender, gender-fluid, agender or otherwise: bisexuality, in etymological terms, refers only to two genders.
Exhibit B: I have a friend, who we’ll call S. S is a cis-female, and she identifies as bisexual, meaning that she dates and crushes on both males and females. However, S only dates and crushes on cis-males and cis-females - as in, she openly confesses that she wouldn’t feel comfortable dating or being intimate with genderqueer, third-gender, agender, gender-fluid, transgender or otherwise gender-identifying individuals. S is not attracted to people outside the gender binary, which is no one’s business but hers and totally fine: many people who call themselves bisexual aren’t. Thus, to differentiate those who are attracted to individuals outside the gender binary from those who aren’t, separate terms can be used. We don’t call S gay, because she is attracted to males as well as females: ergo, if S was attracted to those outside the gender binary as well as those who conform to it, we would say she was pansexual instead of bisexual.
Of course, one is free to identify as one wishes, and one needn’t even identify with any sexuality at all if one doesn’t want to. However, with the volume of LOL this girl/guy/cat thinks he’s/she’s/they’re “pansexual” roflmao showing up on my dash lately, I thought I’d make a point, since pansexuality isn’t a concept limited to thirteen-year-old wannabe hipsters on Tumblr. :)
I like the Exhibit A, Exhibit B style this post has. :)

Pansexual vs. Polysexual
Grabbed this info from wakingupnexttoyou:
“Polysexuality should not be confused with pansexuality; pan meaning all, and poly meaning many, though not necessarily all. Polysexuality is a self-identifying term that is somewhat amorphous, as there is a wide variety of different people who use the term to describe themselves.” - Taken from Wikipedia.
So essentially polysexual could be used by someone who doesn’t feel bisexual is fitting, but is attracted to certain ‘spots’ on the sex and gender circle (often outside of the binary), but not all as pansexuals experience attraction to.

Some answers to my question that I thought needed responses.
chippedtooth17 answered: “I know two bisexuals, and have never met anyone using it as a “trendy” label”
That’s good! I know a couple of bisexual people, but I do think that like-minded people attract each other. When I was identifying as bisexual, most of my close friends were also bisexual. I’ve only met the one “fake bisexual” and I think that people think it’s more of a problem than it is, or that they might be more vocal about it than others.
gypsyqueer answered: “Actually, several of my best friends identify as pansexual too. :) It’s amazing to find like-minded people. Are you in the UK?”
That’s awesome! I would love that. Like I said, I know mostly bisexuals. Yeah, I’m in the UK. I’m guessing spelling gives it away? XD
